You feel what is at stake in the world. And most days, you carry it alone.
Maybe your life works on the outside. Good work, good people around you. And still, the old ways of making sense of the world have collapsed: the old religions, the old meanings, the old stories. Nothing has taken their place yet. This is what other people on this path told us they felt before they found this teaching.
I care so much about the world, and most days I feel completely alone with it. Nobody around me wants to talk about God, AI, love and the future in one breath.
I’ve read all the books. I’ve listened to all the podcasts. I found pieces here and pieces there, and it still doesn’t make sense.

Everyone talks about the risks of AI. I don’t really understand what it means for us, or what to do about it. And I refuse to become a doomer.
I don’t want to reach the end of my life and realize I never gave what I came here to give.

Eros and existential risk, in plain words.
Existential risk
Existential risk is the real possibility that humanity does not make it. Climate breakdown, artificial intelligence, pandemics, collapsing systems, exponential arms races. Every one of them is global, and no nation, company or person can solve them alone. Marc calls this the second shock of existence. The first shock is that I will die. The second is that humanity itself could die, or lose its humanity.
Eros
Eros is the experience of radical aliveness. Fully alive in your body, in your heart, in your mind. It is the desire that moves you toward ever deeper contact and ever greater wholeness: with a person, with an idea, with the whole world. And Eros is not only human. Marc calls it the core fabric of reality’s being and the motivational architecture of reality’s becoming. It is the allurement that draws parts together to form larger wholes, from quarks to atoms, to molecules, to cells, to plants and animals, to human beings and their ideas. One evolutionary impulse, all the way up and all the way down, driving reality to higher levels of consciousness and love. The same Eros that moves particles to make contact and form an atom is alive and awake in you, as your desire.
Why they belong together
A global crisis needs a global response, and that response needs people who feel connected to each other, to the future, and to their own aliveness. When Eros fails, we go numb. We grab for quick fixes, we scroll past the suffering, we stop feeling the world. That numbness is the hidden root of the crisis. So the response begins where your aliveness begins, in your own desire. Your yearning, your outrageous love and your unique gift are needed now. This is how a new human and a new humanity are born, and you are invited to take part.
WHAT MARC MEANS BY EROS
The radical experience of being fully alive
From quarks, to atoms, to molecules, to cells, to early organisms, to plants, to animals, to mammals, to ideas themselves, this core drive for contact is the Eros of all of reality.
Eros is life. The failure of Eros destroys life. Our lack of Eros is poised to destroy the world.
In the last half a century modern psychology has documented an age old truth: a fully nourished baby who is not held in loving arms will die. So too our world, personal and global—even with all the resources of intelligence and technology at our disposal—will die without being held in love. In the embrace of Eros.

This is exactly what the Renaissance was—it was a time between worlds and a time between stories. The Black Death had killed a third to half of Europe, and da Vinci and Ficino and their cohorts understood that they have to tell a new story of value—and that story was the story of modernity.
Our own moment asks the same of us. We need a New Story of Value, eternal yet evolving, rooted in First Principles and First Values, which would become a universal grammar of value, a context for our diversity.
This New Story of Value is the life work of the Center for World Philosophy and Religion, the think tank where Marc is co-president. It is rooted in the best of the exterior sciences, from physics and evolutionary biology to systems theory, and in the best of the interior sciences of the great wisdom traditions. Our lack of Eros is poised to destroy the world
The collapse of Eros is always the hidden (or not so hidden) root cause for the collapse of ethics. This is true both personally and collectively. Marc shows how the emptiness in one life and the danger to all life belong to one broken story: an old story of value that no longer holds us. Then he opens the way forward, a new articulation of a New Story of Value, and with it real possibility, real hope, and a future worth living for.

Visionary thinker, social activist, and passionate philosopher
Dr. Marc Gafni is known for his “source code teachings,” including Unique Self theory, the Amorous Cosmos, A Politics of Evolutionary Love and A Return to Eros. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University, as well as Orthodox rabbinic ordination. He has published more than sixty books, among them the award-winning Your Unique Self and A Return to Eros, and is co-president of the Center for World Philosophy and Religion. At the core of the Center’s mission is the articulation and delivery into culture of a Great Library, which participates in evolving the source code of consciousness and culture in response to the meta-crisis. I’m new to Marc. Will I be able to follow?
